The African diaspora in Africa— Sub-Sahara

The African Diaspora cannot not include Africa. The continent of Africa covering nearly 12 million square miles (31 million sq. km) is the world’s second most populous continent with a population of 1 billion people (as of 2009) spread over 54 countries, it accounts for about 15% of the world human population. Though one land mass Africa is separated into two blocks: North Africa( synonymous with Islam) considered a part of the Arab world and Sub-Saharan Africa, that is the area that lies south of the Sahara. The Sub-Saharan region is often referred to as Black Africa, in reference to its numerous black populations. The population of Sub-Saharan Africa was 800 million in 2007. The current growth rate is 2.3%. The UN predicts for the region a population of nearly 1.5 billion in 2050.
