In the spirit of the African tradition Umoja; celebrating community, family, and togetherness, Brixton’s local community have been invited to come together. For a specal evening filled with song and music.
 
The Solid Harmony Collective will perform a fusion of gospel, soul and tradition African song. Solid Harmony is a young people's choir which was set up in April 2002. It has over 40 members aged 10 -25 from schools, colleges and universities, and a strong senior and alumni membership.

MAKING FREEDOM

An exhibition marking the 175th anniversary of the end of slavery in British isles

This exhibition presented by the Windrush foundation designs to give a voice to those who resisted their enslavement when they would not be heard, those who gave their all to end it and how it affected social  and cultural changes on the British soil.

It says that all along Africans that Africans did not accept their fate and they were not going to have it.

Plans are for the display to stop at various British cities in  2014.

 

The ground-breaking exhibition ends on 21 December 2013. And it's free.

This dramatic real life story retraces the life of Solomon Northup, a free black man abducted and sold into slavery away from his family and his passion, the violin, for 12 years long years.

 

Though this story may seem extraordinary, it was not un-heard of in this trouble times of post abolition.

REPARATIONS NOW!

The voices of the descendants of the former African slaves of the Caribbean islands are not ready to go silent even though slavery ended more than one century and a half ago.

 

Organisations set up to look into the case for reparations have been organising themselves for what seems to be an attrition war against the former colonial powers who took part in the slave trade and benefited from it. But not so the slaves.

 

If you are an organisation or an individual who want to see their offsprings get their due, Saturday 14 December 2013 is the date.
